Jeff Travis, 48, began his inaugural term as sheriff of East Feliciana Parish on Friday, after being administered the oath of office by East Feliciana Clerk of Court David Dart during a ceremony at the parish courthouse in Clinton. Dart also is beginning a new term.
Travis, a retired Department of Public Safety and Corrections official, succeeds four-term Sheriff Talmadge Bunch.
Friends and relatives — including Travis’ wife, Dana, his children Hunter and Courtney, and his father, George Travis — joined residents and parish and state officials in supporting the new sheriff at the festivities.
Staff from Travis’ new administration, which he’s been working to build the past four months, held a “meet and greet” reception on the courthouse lawn Saturday, during the First Saturday Market and Red, White and Blues Festival.
